The editorial cartoon for the unskilled artist

I can’t draw, but if I could, visualize this: A classroom with a bedraggled teacher at the board, students in the foreground. The students are under tables, on top of tables; one is covering his mouth, failing at suppressing a laugh, one is tapping out a beat with pencils in the corner of the room. Three are using the foil wrappers from fund-raiser candy bars to make “grills” for their teeth. Paper airplanes sail through the air. Teacher’s messy bun is falling apart, her skirt is tucked into her pantyhose, and a spit wad is stuck to her name tag. On the board is a mostly completed, diagrammed sentence. The caption reads: It’s been one of those days.
Yeah, wish I could draw. (Disclaimer: I don’t wear skirts or messy buns and no one stood on my tables today)

About teachjournalism
I am a high school teacher of journalism, technology and reading. I advise the school's newspaper and yearbook, both student-led publications. Documenting and sharing my experiences is a way of reflecting to improve my own work and and inviting commentary so that we might all benefit. I believe, as I tell my students each year, that we all learn from each other.
